A stethoscope is a medical instrument used to auscultate (hearken to) sounds produced by the guts, lungs, and different inside organs. It consists of a chestpiece, tubing, and earpieces. The chestpiece is positioned on the pores and skin over the organ being examined, and the earpieces are positioned within the examiner’s ears.
The stethoscope was invented in 1816 by Ren Laennec, a French doctor. Laennec was analyzing a younger lady with coronary heart issues, and he was hesitant to put his ear straight on her chest due to her modesty. As an alternative, he rolled up a bit of paper and positioned it on her chest, after which he listened to her coronary heart by the paper. He discovered that he might hear her coronary heart sounds extra clearly than he might together with his ear straight on her chest.
